We Will Miss Eddie Feigner

Not many people can be looked upon, in their field, to be the "greatest of all time", but Eddie Feigner is one person who softball fans from all over the world most likely would agree, that Eddie, The King of The King and His Court, was the very best pitcher of all time. His career, spanning over 60 years was the thing that legends are made of and he wore his crown well, amazing and entertaining fans with his incredible talents. I first saw Eddie and his four man team take on the Triple Cities Softball All-Stars, at Johnson Field, in Johnson City,NY, home of the Yankee farm team, the Binghamton Triplets, in 1958, and I never forgot what a great show the King and His Court was. Many years later, it would be my thrill, indeed to get a chance to play against the Court a few times, and then get the honor to actually put on the uniform of the King and His Court and play WITH them, as a backup in case of emergency or injury to one of the Court players. As a kid, I always dreamed of one day wearing those pinstripes of the Bronx Bombers and playing in Yankee Stadium, but putting on the King & His Court uniform, the first time, was every bit of the thrill that I dreamed about putting on the Yankee outfit would be. In the 1980's Eddie and I, during his tour's off-season, would travel around some west coast colleges, and doing half-time shows at basketball games, ie. Pauley Pavilion (UCLA), Selland Arena (Fresno State), and other such venues, where Eddie would do his very funny pitching routine and the crowds would be lovin' it. More than anything else, however, I will always remember what a great guy he was to the fans and to his friends. He had some bumps in the road, as we all do, but Eddie Feigner was one terrific person. As a baseball fan growing up in New York, I got him right up there with Mickey Mantle.

The 2007 California State Junior College Basketball Champions, the Fresno City College Rams

FCC Rams Win 2007 California State Basketball Championship on Cocola Broadcasting Stations!
The Rams defeated Antelope Valley in the championship game, 90-77, after beating Saddleback College, 76-75 in the semifinals, Compton, 103-99 in the quarterfinals, Hartnell College 105-83 in the second round of the playoffs, and Monterey Peninsula, 99-86 in first round playoff action. All this was after the Central Valley Conference championship showdown game with West Hills in which both teams came into the game with identical 11-2 records. The Rams won their 6th straight CVC crown by a score of 99-86.

Hands down California State JC Coach of the Year, Ed Madec, and his very young (and very short) Rams had pulled off a miracle in 1980 USA hockey team proportions. Nobody gave the Rams even a remote chance of winning the state crown with 2 returning sophs (both under 6') and 12 brand new freshman and a team whose starting center was a 6'2 1/2" frosh. The coaching staff of Ed Madec, Tony Admundsen, Dom Bukasa, James Davis, Mike Vellutini, Don Flaming, and Chad Borkey, put together a work plan and life plan for the student athletes and the great ride was on. Unselfish teamwork, hard work ethic, discipline, no-quit attitude, and a one for all and all for one concept - both on and off the court, began to pay off for the team that was supposed to finish towards the bottom of the conference and forget about the state playoffs.

The team began to see the Madec vision after some upsets early in the season at tournaments around the state and the Rams began to believe anything was possible. Each game was another learning session. Practices were much harder than the games as the Rams got stronger and the goals began to focus. If they lost to a team, it just made them work harder and, for example, when the Rams lost to Cuesta College in the Bakersfield College Holiday Tournament (which brought their season record to 5-3)), they got back to work and a month later came back to beat Cuesta. That's the way they were. West Hills beat the Rams 100-90 in CVC play on January 24th, and less than a month later, the Rams came back and beat the Falcons by 13 points for the CVC crown. Always working, always learning, and lovin' it.

The overachieving Rams of Ed Madec, finished the season with a 32-8 overall record (12-2 in the CVC) and an incredible state championship. As they have, for the past 5 years, Cocola Broadcasting Stations, with Chris Terrence doing the play-by-play, and Tim Natsues doing the color, have televised the games on KJEO-TV32, KGMC-TV43, Comcast stations, as well as on Charter Cable in the South Valley.

Just A Tank Away
Chris has written and produced over 165 "Just A Tank Away" spots on KJWL (FM 99.3)over the past 5 years. The basic idea is to suggest nice getaway destinations that are not far away from the Valley. And there are a whole bunch of them of course. From San Francisco to San Diego on the coast, Yosemite to Palm Desert and Las Vegas to the east, Reno/Tahoe, Grass Valey, Sacramento, Columbia and other such places to the north and east, to LA and all the attractions to the south - all are within a reasonably short drive and all have something special for you.

Friday Night Lights
Chris and Fred, our estemed football broadcasters, are part of this show during football season on KCBL FOX 1340 on your A.M. dial. The show is all about the high school football scene in the Valley and features the rants of the Dynamic Duo along with host Brian Noe and Greg Fisher playing the part of the antagonist. It's a fun show and it also features many of the coaches and stars along with Fred playing the trumpet at any given time during the evening. Friday Night Lights airs on Wednesdays and Fridays from 6 to 7pm.
